Another toddler was raped in India. The police swooped in quickly and apprehended the culprits. China says it won’t stop freedom of navigation in the South China Sea. Plus authorities arrest an ISIS hacker in Malaysia and an update on Typhoon Koppu.

Police arrest 2 teens in rape of Indian toddler

On Friday’s Asia News Weekly, I mentioned the disgusting rape of a four-year-old girl in India. Well, things got worse over the weekend. This time, a toddler, a girl 2-1/2-years-old, was the victim. Two teens were arrested on Sunday for the crime after the baby was found unconscious and bleeding in a nearby park. The narrative is that the boys abducted the child during a 10-minute power outage while she was playing outside her home. In a separate incident, police announced the arrest of three men for the rape of a five-year-old.

China open to freedom of navigation, on their terms

Things in the South China Sea are sure get interesting as the United States prepares for its much anticipated trip through the area to test China’s resolve and commitment to the freedom of navigation. This weekend, Chinese general Fan Changlong said, “We will never recklessly resort to the use of force, even on issues of sovereignty, and have done our utmost to avoid unexpected conflicts.”

According to the United States and other nations, UNCLOS prohibits claiming territory around artificial islands built on previously submerged reefs. Therefore, the US armed forces would sail or fly wherever international law allowed.

Kosovoan arrested in Malaysia for hacking for ISIS

The United States Justice department charged this weekend a Kosovo citizen with computer hacking and handing over the personal information of more than 1,300 U.S. military members to Islamic State. Malaysian authorities arrested Ardit Ferizi on the US warrant and the Justice Department will seek his extradition.

Super Typhoon Koppu brings rain, floods, and more

Super Typhoon Kuppo, known as Lando locally, made landfall this weekend in the Philippines bringing with it strong winds and torrential rains. Thus far the powerful storm has claimed at least one life and displaced more than 20,000 people from their homes.
